DHCP Configuration Confusion

,

NethServer Version: 7.4.1708
Module: DHCP

I am new to NS upgrading from a Ubiquity Edgerouter X. In the Edgerouter I was able to set dnsmasq to append “lan” to a hostname so I could reach any device in the local network at hostname.lan.

This works in NS until I reserve a local IP for a host, then it is no longer reachable at hostname.lan. Instead, it is reachable at hostname.theServerDomain.tld.

I would like to be able to reserve a local IP for a host and still have it be reachable at hostname.lan. Does anyone do this with NS? I could really use a little guidance to point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance!

I think you could try to change the settings of dnsmasq.conf

But please build a custom template for that. Here is a description how to do this.

http://docs.nethserver.org/projects/nethserver-devel/en/v7/templates.html

OK, I guess this confirms that there is no way to use the UI to set the variables to achieve the outcome I would like.

I’m not sure what variables in dnsmasq.conf need to be changed to accomplish my objective, but I will look at the documentation for dnsmasq next.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction about the custom template.
